The deeper it goes, the more things make sense if you’ve read the previous books. While I’ve not read book one, yet, I do recommend you read this series in order. The first person also takes the reader deeper into the story as Jo traverses her newfound faith and struggles to become closer with God. The first person narration is not one I read often, but I found it provided a certain closeness to the story as Jo comes face to face with her husband’s death and the subsequent fallout as she becomes the prime suspect. I love how Catherine Finger kept Josie guessing. Even those who should be allies will become suspect. There is a good deal of mystery and tension throughout the story, and Jo is never certain of just who she can trust. When Jo finds herself in a heap of trouble, there are only a handful of people who might stand by her side, and one who just might not mind staying there forever. She absolutely runs away with this story and takes the reader along for the ride. Jo is one of those characters who hits the ground running. What an explosive second book in this wonderful series.
